On Saturday the 17th of September 2016 a technical visit will take place to a water treatment unit and a wastewater treatment facility. The technical visit is fully sponsored by the Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP S.A.) and is offered free of charge to all Conference delegates. EYDAP is the largest company of its kind in Greece and serves approximately 4,300,000 customers (2,030,000 water meters) while the length of water pipelines is 9,500 km. The sewerage sector serves 3,500,000 residents with sewers spreading at almost 6,000 km.
The water treatment facility of Aspropyrgos and the wastewater treatment plant of Psyttalia will be visited. The Aspropyrgos water treatment plant has a capacity of 200,000 m3/d and provides drinking water to the western suburbs of Athens, to the island of Salamina and to the area of Thiasio Pedio. The WWTP of Psyttalia is the main plant for treatment of sewage in the Greater Athens Area. It treats approximately 730,000 m3/d of municipal sewage and is one of the largest WWTPs in Europe. Its unique feature is that it is located in an island (Psyttalia island) located a short distance from the mainland which only hosts the plant.
